Abstract

This article analyzes the theoretical underpinnings, practical significance and implementation possibilities of the Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach to teaching English as a foreign language. PBL is defined as a pedagogical methodology that directs students to work on real-life problems, centered on students. The article highlights PBL’s role in developing communicative competence, shaping 21st century skills, and increasing student motivation. Opportunities and difficulties in the process of transition from a traditional memorization-based approach to PBL are also discussed in the Uzbek educational system.
