Abstract

Abstract. Chronic alcoholism and domestic gas poisoning are among the most important medical and social problems worldwide. Both factors exert adverse effects on various organs and systems, including the gastrointestinal tract. The small intestine is particularly vulnerable to hypoxic and toxic damage, which may lead to structural and functional disturbances. The present study aimed to investigate the morphological, morphometric, and immunohistochemical changes occurring in the small intestine following domestic gas poisoning against the background of chronic alcoholism and to evaluate tissue recovery after corrective treatment.
