THE IMPACT OF EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING THROUGH INTERACTIVE METHODS IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Abstract

Abstract: Motivation is a key factor in successful foreign language acquisition. While intrinsic motivation has been widely studied, extrinsic motivation — driven by grades, recognition, and external rewards — plays an equally important role, especially in university settings. This paper examines how interactive pedagogical activities enhance the effect of extrinsic motivation on English language learning among university students. Drawing on recent studies and contemporary motivation theories, the article demonstrates that well-designed interactive activities significantly increase students’ speaking fluency, classroom participation, and overall language achievement by reinforcing external incentives. The findings suggest that combining extrinsic motivational factors with interactive methods creates a powerful synergy for improving English learning outcomes.
