Family-run tourism enterprises play an important role in regional economic development, employment generation, cultural heritage preservation, and the promotion of authentic tourist experiences. In Uzbekistan, particularly in Samarkand, family businesses contribute to hospitality, gastronomy, handicrafts, and cultural tourism. However, their development is constrained by limited access to finance, insufficient professional management skills, seasonal demand, and the low adoption of digital technologies. This paper examines the socio-economic significance of family-run tourism enterprises in Samarkand, identifies their main development challenges, and explores opportunities for strengthening their competitiveness. The study highlights the importance of government support, digital transformation, professional training, and sustainable tourism practices in improving the performance of family-owned enterprises. Strengthening this sector can contribute to inclusive economic growth while preserving the cultural identity of Samarkand.
