Abstract

This research delves into discourse, its foundation, and importance as a subject of investigation in modern linguistics. The study explores main properties of discourse, its interdisciplinary character, the commonalities and nuances between text and discourse. It further investigates different approaches to discourse analysis, main classification of discourse types, genres, and modes. As discourse is a complex communication process built by sociocultural context, characterized by interdisciplinarity, discourse studies contribute to not only linguistics, but also psychology, sociology, politics, culture and other sciences, making discourse crucial element to fully understand human communication.
