A CONCISE REVIEW OF CENTRAL CHALLENGES IN NON-NATIVE WRITING PEDAGOGY AND STUDIES

Abstract

ABSTRACT The literature on writing abilities in a second language is briefly reviewed in this essay. It begins with a discussion on the value of writing and its unique qualities. After that, it provides a succinct explanation of the reasons why students' writing abilities are lacking and covers some of the most significant subjects in L2 writing studies, including disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and metadisciplinary fields of study. It also provides a historical overview of L2 writing studies, covering methods for teaching writing, such as behavioristic and contrastive rhetoric, as well as methods for studying writing, such as product-oriented, process-oriented, and post-process approaches. Additionally, it presents various forms of written feedback, including self-monitoring, teacher comments, conferences, and peer feedback. Lastly, it addresses the contrast between analytical and holistic approaches to literary evaluation.
