Abstract. This literature review analyzes possible morphological changes in the thyroid gland associated with the combined and prolonged use of anti-inflammatory drugs. Available evidence indicates that certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may affect thyroid hormone metabolism. Experimental studies have reported changes in thyroid follicular diameter, follicular epithelial height, and colloid characteristics following exposure to certain drugs. However, it is important to distinguish functional alterations in thyroid hormone parameters from direct morphological injury to thyroid tissue. The combined effects of multiple anti-inflammatory drugs, particularly their morphological and morphometric consequences under polypharmacy conditions, remain insufficiently investigated. Therefore, comprehensive histological and morphometric assessment of thyroid tissue represents an important direction for further experimental research.
