Abstract

This thesis explores the strategic role of vocabulary practice games in advanced-level foreign language acquisition. At advanced stages of learning, vocabulary mastery extends beyond the simple memorization of individual words, requiring a sophisticated understanding of collocations, idiomatic expressions, stylistic nuances, and contextual appropriateness. While lower-level instruction focuses heavily on grammar and basic vocabulary, advanced learners require specialized approaches to achieve lexical sophistication and communicative precision. This study highlights how vocabulary practice games provide an interactive, learner-centered environment that stimulates critical thinking, enhances memory retention, and improves problem-solving abilities. By analyzing practical classroom applications—such as Lexical Nuance Debates, Advanced Collocation Races, and Academic Vocabulary Tournaments—the research demonstrates that gamification facilitates active lexical retrieval, long-term retention, and overall communicative competence. Ultimately, the thesis underscores the pedagogical significance of integrating gamified strategies to overcome the unique challenges faced by advanced language learners
