LABORATORY DIAGNOSIS OF INTESTINAL INFECTIONS

Abstract

Intestinal infections remain a major global public health problem, particularly in developing countries, where they contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality among children and immunocompromised individuals. Accurate and timely laboratory diagnosis plays a crucial role in identifying the causative agents, guiding appropriate antimicrobial therapy, preventing complications, and controlling outbreaks. Modern laboratory methods include conventional microbiological techniques as well as advanced molecular and immunological approaches. This article reviews the principles, methods, and clinical significance of laboratory diagnosis of intestinal infections.
