Abstract

This article examines the role of metacognitive reading strategies and their impact on learners’ reading comprehension. Metacognitive strategies enable learners to plan, monitor and evaluate their reading processes, helping them become more independent and effective readers. The study explores various metacognitive techniques such as predicting, self-questioning, summarizing and reflecting on reading performance. It highlights how the conscious use of these strategies improves comprehension, critical thinking and information retention. The findings suggest that learners who actively apply metacognitive reading strategies demonstrate higher levels of reading achievement and better understanding of texts.
