CLINICAL AND LABORATORY SIGNIFICANCE OF DIFFUSE LIVER CHANGES IN DIFFERENT FORMS OF VIRAL HEPATITIS
Abstract
Viral hepatitis is one of the major causes of chronic liver disease worldwide. Hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses are particularly important because persistent infection may result in progressive hepatic inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The clinical course of viral hepatitis is highly variable, ranging from asymptomatic infection to severe acute hepatitis and advanced chronic liver disease.
