This article examines semantic compression and information density in English simultaneous interpretation. Simultaneous interpretation is a complex process that requires interpreters to listen, understand, and reproduce a speaker’s message in another language almost at the same time. In this process, interpreters often use semantic compression to convey the main meaning of a message with fewer words while preserving its essential information. The article discusses the relationship between semantic compression, information density, linguistic differences, and cognitive processing. It also considers the main strategies used by interpreters, including summarization, omission of redundant elements, generalization, restructuring, and the selection of key information. Particular attention is given to the importance of accuracy, coherence, and contextual understanding in professional interpreting.
