PHONETIC REPRESENTATION IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK AUDIO DICTIONARIES

Abstract

Pronunciation-based dictionaries play a significant role in modern language learning and lexicographic practice, especially in languages with distinct phonetic systems such as English and Uzbek. This article examines the importance of pronunciation dictionaries in improving phonetic competence, listening comprehension, and communicative accuracy. The study analyzes the role of phonetic transcription systems, particularly the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), audio pronunciation models, and native-speaker recordings in facilitating effective language acquisition. Special attention is devoted to the comparative analysis of English and Uzbek pronunciation dictionaries, focusing on spelling-to-sound correspondence, stress patterns, vowel and consonant representation, and digital audio support. The research also highlights the growing significance of online dictionaries, mobile applications, and multimedia technologies in pronunciation teaching and independent learning. The findings demonstrate that pronunciation-based dictionaries contribute substantially to vocabulary acquisition, speech intelligibility, intercultural communication, and learner confidence, making them indispensable tools in contemporary linguistic education
