THE IMPORTANCE OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS IN ESP TEACHING

Abstract

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) focuses on developing language skills that meet learners’ academic and professional needs. One of the most effective ways to achieve this goal is through the use of authentic materials. Authentic materials are texts, audio recordings, videos, and other resources originally created for real-life communication rather than language teaching purposes. These materials expose learners to genuine language use, professional terminology, and real-world contexts. This paper discusses the importance of authentic materials in ESP teaching, their benefits, challenges, and practical applications in the classroom.
