Abstract. This thesis examines current trends and key development factors influencing the application of digital technologies in education. It uses a systematic literature review approach to synthesize research on technological advances, pedagogical change, and socio-economic drivers. The reviewed literature highlights personalized and adaptive learning supported by artificial intelligence (AI), immersive learning through virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), learning analytics, cloud-based collaboration, gamification, microlearning, open educational resources (OER), and massive open online courses (MOOCs). Their development is associated with improved connectivity and computing, student-centred pedagogy, institutional and government support, teacher digital competence, global disruptions, and growth in the educational technology market. The analysis also identifies persistent challenges, including unequal access, privacy concerns, algorithmic bias, and insufficient teacher preparation. The thesis argues that successful digital education depends not only on the availability of tools but also on their purposeful pedagogical integration, equitable access, and responsible governance.
