THE ROLE OF SELF-STUDY IN DEVELOPING LEARNER AUTONOMY AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Annotatsiya: This paper explores the importance of self-study (independent learning) in English language teaching at Nukus State Pedagogical Institute. It highlights how self-study contributes to the development of students’ linguistic competence, learner autonomy, motivation, and lifelong learning skills. The study analyzes the advantages, challenges, and effective strategies for implementing self-study in the context of Nukus State Pedagogical Institute, where future English teachers are trained. The findings suggest that integrating systematic self-study into the curriculum significantly improves students’ English proficiency and prepares them to become more competent and autonomous teachers in the education system of Karakalpakstan and Uzbekistan.
